Formed in 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia, two of the members, Tionne Watkins and LisaLopes, were originally part of group called 2nd Nature with Crystal Jones. Thegroup’s name was originally TLC-Skee with TLC being an acronym for the threegirls’ first names. Due to conflicts within the group, Crystal Jones left thegroup, and with just two members, TLC-Skee was featured on a track for DamianDame’s 1991 self-titled album. In 1991, Rozonda Thomas, a part-time backupdancer for Damian Dame was chosen to be the third member of the group.Though it's no surprise TLC were music and fashion icons of the 1990s, they werealso known for promoting safe sex, anti-drug, and HIV/AIDS prevention messagesthrough their music.
