This ancient species has been on our planet longer than flowers,spiders and, of course, humans. Currently, the oldest living redwood is around 2,200 years old. Its thick trunkand bark help keep it healthy while protecting against natural disasters such asforest fire, and other natural erosion such as insects and rot. Along with allothers of the coast redwood species, the only place in the world that Hyperioncan grow is along the coast of California in the United States.
