He would go on to star in several sketches and songs, as well as theoccasional street plot. However, Kermit began to receive criticism after fansand followers of the show noted Kermit's commercialization – the frog began tobe seen as a know-it-all and simply a means of promotion. For a point in time,Kermit's role was questioned altogether, and executives of the show promisedchanges to Kermit's features.However, the lovable frog ultimately persevered, both on Sesame Street and TheMuppet Show. He continued to make cameos and guest appearances on Sesame Street while maintaining his role as host and often star of The Muppet Show. Sincethen, characters from both shows have become household favorites, with SesameStreet remaining as popular as ever.
