They are Bashful and Doc.At the time of its release in 1937, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs wasrevolutionary. Walt Disney's name circulated with respect in the film industry, yet at the time had little more to its name than handfuls of short, animatedcartoons. Disney, with commitment to a gamble that might end his career, presented an idea: creation of a full-length animated feature film starringseven little dwarfs. Apparently inspired by the 1917 silent film of the fable,Disney responded to the wariness for his project (nicknamed preemptively"Disney's Folly") by investing over a million dollars into its production. Over the period of three years, Snow White came to life, bringing with itimprovements to animation technology that changed the industry forever. Over 750artists completed more than 2 million sketches for the animation, while thefinished film included some 250,000 drawings. Further, Disney tasked his teamwith creating the multiplane camera, a device capable of shooting several imagesat once in order to create more depth (and imagination) in the artists'drawings. The end result was spectacular. Upon its release to the public in 1938, the filmquickly grossed $8 million, a substantial sum during the Great Depression andthe most made by any film up to that time. Critics were virtually unanimous intheir fervor for Snow White. Charlie Chaplin, who attended the Hollywoodpremiere, told the Los Angeles Times that the film "even surpassed our highexpectations." Regardless of technological innovation, Snow White remains a well-loved classicin American film. Watch the iconic song "Smile and a Song" below.
