When it comes to consumption, people inFinland and Sweden drink more coffee per person each year than any othercountry.As the third most consumed drink in the world, coffee is in high demand. Thebean is grown, produced and exported in over 50 countries across the globe. Some25 million smallholder farms produce about 80% of the world's coffee, while over125 million people around the globe depend on its production for theirlivelihoods. After crude oil, coffee is the most sought commodity in the world,with a worth clocking in at just over $100 billion worldwide. In places like Brazil, the temperate conditions and humid climate are perfectfor coffee growing. After the introduction of the crop in the mid 16th century,the coffee industry took off. In fact, it is said that the global demand forcoffee was responsible for much of the modern economic expansion that occurredin Brazil.
