Almost half of the country'spopulation is under the age of 19, making it the youngest population in all ofLatin America.From turquoise seas to monumental volcanoes, Central America has more than a fewsights to behold. Central America spans seven countries (eight if you countMexico), including Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador,Guatemala, and Belize. The stretch of land which comprises these nations is athin border that separates the Pacific Ocean from the Caribbean Sea. Volcanic cones – some of which are still active today– shape the mountain ridges and plateaus found throughout most of the region. Asa result, fertile soil collects from the weathered volcanic lava, and the areasare often rich with tropical biodiversity. Meanwhile, tropical rainforestsoccupy most of the lowlands.While most Central Americans today are of mixed Spanish ancestry, indigenousculture still thrives in pockets throughout the land. The Miskito, Sumo, Rama,and other tribes on the Nicaraguan and Honduran Caribbean shores continue tocall the region home, while descendants of Mayan ancestry continue to influenceCentral American culture.
