> In which ocean is the Bermuda Triangle located?> And the answer: Atlantic Ocean.Photo credit: Shutterstock. The Bermuda Triangle is a section of the AtlanticOcean bounded by the Florida Panhandle, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. It is knownfor the ominous disappearance of dozens of ships and airplanes in unexplainedcircumstances. In 1950, an article was published in multiple American newspapers highlightingnumerous unexplained disappearances between the coast of Florida and the islandof Bermuda. The article details 5 separate incidents from the previoushalf-decade, in which 1 boat, 9 planes and some 135 civilians and crewmenvanished. This publication marks the first time that this particular region wassuspected of being abnormally prone to nautical vanishments. Interestingly, the phenomenon was soon made out to be an enigmatic mystery. A1952 magazine specializing in the paranormal outlined the region as a triangle —a fact which the author did not elaborate on — and soon the idea stuck. One of the catalysts for the mystery comes in the story of Flight 19. On the 5thof December, 1945, a squadron of five planes departed a Naval Air Station in Ft.Lauderdale, Florida. It was a routine navigation exercise that should not haveposed a problem for the 14 experienced pilots and crew, yet 2 hours into theexercise one of the pilots began to experience disorientation and compassmalfunction. While stations attempted to maintain contact with Flight 19, theycould not successfully locate its position. Some 4 hours later, Navy personnelwere able to locate the plane some 200 km off its intended flight path. Aseaplane was dispatched to the location, but after a routine transmission, it,too, disappeared. Flight 19 was never seen, or heard from, again. While it seems mysterious, there are a number of other factors which could haveled to disappearances such as this one. Inexperienced flight plans, confusedcommunication between the tower and the plane, and a variety of other factorsshould all be considered in the mystery that surrounds the Bermuda Triangle.
